The great festival of Basque culture returns to Bilbao during Easter. This year the Cinema section has been added to the traditional themes: Gourmet, Culture, Market, Music and Sport. Tasting the finest our gastronomy has to offer, attending unforgettable concerts, discovering the Basque language, taking part in dance exhibitions and workshops for Basque instruments, getting to know our traditional sports, enjoying street entertainment and crossing the estuary in an original way… The very best of Basque culture is within your reach, with over 300 activities for all tastes and ages, most of which are free. The musical offering at basque FEST brings together the traditional and the modern and a broad range of styles. The programme includesunique performances designed for the festival from great Basque musicians such as Niko Etxart, Oreka TX and Kalakan, as well as hugely successful and well-known artists such as the singer-songwriter Izaro. The line-up combines the traditional sounds of the txistu (fipple flute), txirula (flute), alboka (single-reed woodwind instrument) and txalaparta (idiophone) with the electric Basque Fest Rock City, atmospheric jazz and mixes from DJs.

The seventh art with the Basque hallmark. Cinema “made in the Basque Country” has always had a characteristic essence. The BBK Hall is the setting that will host the new section of the basque FEST: CINEMA. The film “Gernika” by Koldo Serra, who is from Bilbao, is the film that will open this new area for the festival.

Herri Kirolak strong man competitions and traditional sports represent one of the most characteristic images of the Basque identity. basque FEST offers the opportunity to watch live the harrijasotzailes (stone lifters) who can lift giant stones and the aizkolaris (log-choppers) who can masterfully chop tree trunks with an axe, and to enjoy the internationally renowned sport of Basque pelota. Arenal in Bilbao will be the stage for workshops and the aforementioned sporting challenges that bring together strength, ability and tradition.
